Interviewing and Getting to the Truth (APA)

Earn 5.50 CE Credits!

Psychologists and related professionals often need to have incredibly challenging conversations with their clients. Lies and deception can be prevalent in these conversations. A study found that 93% of patients have lied to their therapist, highlighting the need for skills to uncover the truth in these critical interactions. This course provides advanced techniques to enhance truth elicitation and improve outcomes in challenging conversations.

Participants will learn how to craft expert questions to extract the truth and manage passive-aggressive behaviors, while practicing strategies for engaging different subjects. Through hands-on exercises, they'll refine observation, question formulation, and interview strategies, as well as sharpen their ability to detect deception.

Students will also master rapport-building techniques using proxemics, prefix bridges, and other science-backed methods.

Note: Pamela’s 11-module masterclass, Deception Detection: Interviewing and Getting to the Truth, is also available, divided into two parts. This course, Interviewing and Getting to the Truth, covers the same material as the second half, while the first half is available as Deception Detection.
